What Will Happen after the Economic Downturn?
(May 1, 2009) Minneapolis—These days it is only natural that people be focused on the tough economic situation. But what happens when the economy begins to turn around?

Workforce reduction in some companies has left remaining employees struggling with double (sometimes triple) the workload and low morale. These employees are becoming weary and resentful but can’t afford to leave yet. So when the economy turns around, these employees may make a change. Also, many baby boomers are retiring, which is shrinking the overall workforce. The combination of these factors may result in a talent crisis.

“I remind companies frequently that it is important to take care of employees—your most critical asset! Many companies are understaffed and overworked, but it is important to keep morale high and make the necessary adjustments to keep your department or company on track. Regular, open communication with the staff—especially key talent—throughout economic twists and turns is a no cost/high value way to take care of employees,” said Stacey Stratton, executive recruiter at True Talent Group.

So Who is Hiring in This Economy?

(March 18, 2009) Minneapolis—True Talent Group is happy to report employees that help businesses grow are in demand right now. According to Jobfox, one of the most recession-proof positions is in sales.1 In tough times, it’s important for companies to sell aggressively. Often new talent can bring fresh perspectives of untapped opportunities through new audiences or venues.

A recent survey of local recruiters by MN Headhunter found that our area is doing better in terms of hiring and optimism than some other regions.2

Sales positions are among high rated occupations in demand—garnering four- and five-star (highest) ratings in the Twin Cities as noted by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.3

Over the next six months, almost 83.5 percent of employers in the Twin Cities area predict that they will keep their employment constant, 8 percent think they will be hiring and just over 8 percent may decrease their employment.4

Yes, it’s true that many companies are shedding jobs, but we can feel optimistic that more than 90 percent of area companies will keep employment constant—or even add jobs. Hiring cycles are taking longer because many companies are being, in their words, “deliberate” regarding who they hire.5
